WHY NAME AMA?

AMA means “mother” in Tibetan and for us, it means so much more than a name.

Our restaurant is a tribute to a woman whose life has been defined by strength, independence, and quiet determination. When my mother came to Belgium, she faced a reality that many immigrants know too well: without the language or formal qualifications, finding a job was nearly impossible. But instead of giving up, she chose to create her own path.

She began making momos ,a dish deeply rooted in Tibetan households guided by the recipes of her elder sister and her own mother. These weren’t just instructions; they were traditions passed down through generations, filled with care, memory, and identity. Over time, she developed her own touch: special ingredients, a unique way of marinating, and an instinct for balance that made her cooking truly her own.

Before opening AMA, we had our doubts. Would people here understand our food? Would they like it? But from the very first month, the response was beyond anything we imagined. The encouragement we received gave us the confidence to keep going, to keep improving, and to keep sharing our story through food.

My mother always says that cooking good food is a form of respect. When someone chooses to spend their hard-earned money at our restaurant, it becomes our responsibility to give them something meaningful in return not just a meal, but an experience they will remember.

AMA is not just a restaurant. It is her story, her resilience, and her love served on every plate.
